TECHNICAL ANALYSIS

• SUPPORT AREA: $3.00 – $2.80. Despite the most recent pullback, gasoline prices have remained above the recently established support area between $3.00 and $2.80, which has held so far this week as well.
• UPTREND: The uptrend channel depicted by the daily chart below shows that gasoline prices have had positive momentum since the start of 2026.
• PRICE ACTION: GASOLINE PRICES HAVE HIT THEIR HIGHEST LEVEL SINCE JULY 2022 ($3.3806). Since the start of 2026, gasoline prices have risen by around 97%, hitting their highest level in almost four years ($3.3806). However, the price could also decline.

GEOPOLITICS: MIDDLE EAST WAR

• EVENT (DEADLINE: MONDAY, APRIL 6): US PRESIDENT TRUMP EXTENDED THE DEADLINE FOR STRIKING IRAN’S ENERGY PLANTS TO APRIL 6.  U.S. President Donald Trump said he will extend the deadline to April 6 for Iran to make a deal to end the war or face the destruction of its energy plants.

• MIDDLE EAST WAR: FIFTH WEEK. Tensions between the U.S. and Iran remained high, with ongoing airstrikes targeting Iranian military positions and continued missile and drone attacks by Iran against U.S. bases and allied infrastructure across the Gulf.

GEOPOLITICS: MIDDLE EAST WAR

• STRAIT OF HORMUZ IS EFFECTIVELY CLOSED: Around 20 million barrels of oil per day are unable to reach global markets. Also, around 3200 ships are stranded near the Strait of Hormuz, including many oil tankers carrying more than 200 million barrels of crude.
• CURRENT IMPACT: This represents ~20% of global oil demand, creating a major supply shock.
• SUPPLY LOSS ACCUMULATING: Over the last 33 days, since the war began, nearly 670 million barrels of oil exports have been disrupted.
• PRODUCTION SHUTDOWNS: AROUND 11 MILLION BARRELS OF OIL PER DAY. Approximately 11 million barrels per day of oil production has been stopped by several Gulf producers due to the conflict, including Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, and the U.A.E.

• NEXT MEETING OF OPEC+ V8 MEMBERS: SUNDAY, APRIL 5

BREAKING (MARCH 2): EIGHT OPEC+ MEMBERS (V8) (Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, UAE, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman) ANNOUNCED THEY WILL INCREASE PRODUCTION BY 206,000 BARRELS A DAY STARTING APRIL 2026. The OPEC+ group, including Saudi Arabia, Russia, and others accounting for half of the global oil supply, said they will increase oil production by 206,000 barrels a day in April 2026. However, the war in the Middle East has so far clearly hindered OPEC+ plans. They will next meet on Sunday (April 5).
