NATURAL GAS USE AND MARKET SHARE

• NATURAL GAS is mainly used for electricity generation and heating. In the U.S., about 45% of homes use natural gas for heating.
• MARKET SHARE - PRODUCERS: BIGGEST NATURAL GAS PRODUCERS IN THE WORLD. The U.S. is the largest producer, accounting for around 25% of global natural gas production, while Russia ranks second with about 15%. Qatar contributes roughly 4–5%, while Iran accounts for approximately 5–6% of total global production.
• MARKET SHARE – NATURAL GAS IMPORTERS: China is the world’s largest importer, accounting for approximately 19–23.5% of global imports. Japan ranks second with around 16–18%, followed by the EU at roughly 14–15%.

GEOPOLITICS: MIDDLE EAST WAR

• EVENT (DEADLINE: FRIDAY, MARCH 27): U.S. PRESIDENT TRUMP SET A NEW ULTIMATUM TO IRAN. U.S. President Donald Trump has postponed planned strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure for five days, until the end of Friday (March 27), suggesting that a deal could be negotiated. However, the pause remains conditional, with strikes likely to resume if negotiations fail.
• MIDDLE EAST WAR: FOURTH WEEK. Tensions between the U.S. and Iran have remained high, with continued missile and drone attacks by Iran against U.S. bases and allied infrastructure across the Gulf.
• BREAKING: ABOUT 2,200 U.S. MARINES TO ARRIVE IN THE MIDDLE EAST BY FRIDAY (MARCH 27). The U.S. is also deploying the assault ship USS Tripoli (LHA-7) and landing dock USS New Orleans (LPD-18) to the Middle East, carrying around 2,200 Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, and is set to arrive Friday (March 27). In addition, the Pentagon is expected to send thousands of soldiers from the U.S. Army’s elite 82nd Airborne Division.

STRAIT OF HORMUZ REMAINS CLOSED: CRITICAL LNG SUPPLY ROUTE AT RISK. The Strait of Hormuz remains effectively closed for its fourth week. Around 20–25% of global LNG exports pass, mainly from Qatar.

BREAKING (MARCH 24): QATAR LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) DISRUPTIONS ESCALATE: FORCE MAJEURE DECLARED (Unable to meet contractual obligations). Qatar, responsible for around 20% of global LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) exports, had stopped liquefied natural gas production after facilities were targeted by missile and drone attacks. QatarEnergy has now declared force majeure (unable to meet its contractual obligations) on select long-term LNG contracts, impacting buyers in Italy, Belgium, South Korea, and China.

EUROPE: NATURAL GAS STORAGE HAS DECLINED TO 28.50% OF CAPACITY

• EUROPEAN NATURAL GAS STORAGE IS 30% BELOW THE 5-YEAR AVERAGE. Natural gas storage levels in Europe have continued to decline, falling well below the five-year average and approaching levels last seen in April 2022. A stronger refilling season could be ahead in 2026. After cutting itself off from Russian natural gas, Europe has recently reached an agreement with the United States to increase purchases of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

TECHNICAL ANALYSIS

• BREAKING (FEBRUARY 26): NATURAL GAS PRICE HAS HIT ITS LOWEST RATE SINCE AUGUST 2025 ($2.769).
• SUPPORT AREA: $3. Natural gas has maintained strong support near $3 since late 2024, testing the area nine times and confirming it as a solid support zone. This is the tenth time to trade near the mark of $3. However, it could also decline.
